1979 ALBERG 37 mkII 'THE EVERDEN' $46,000 Cdn

ALBERG 37mkII at ANCHOR

1979 ALBERG 37 mkII 'THE EVERDEN'

1979 WHITBY BOATWORKS - ALBERG 37 mkII - Classic Blue-Water Capable Cruiser in Gananoque, Ontario

    The Legacy of Whitby Boatworks

Whitby Boatworks, located in Whitby, Ontario, built a formidable reputation as one of Canada's most respected yards for high quality, blue-water capable cruising sailboats. Founded by Kurt and Doris Hansen, the yard became famous for constructing robust, ocean-ready hulls designed to withstand demanding sea conditions while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship. The yard built over 240 Alberg 37 hulls between 1967 and 1988, cementing Whitby Boatworks as an icon in classic Canadian boat building history.

The commitment of Whitby Boatworks to heavy fiberglass construction, deep keels, and timeless joinery made their vessels a top choice for sailors pursuing offshore passages and serious Great Lakes cruising. The craftsmanship remains evident today in surviving vessels, which continue to be prized by classic boat enthusiasts, liveaboards, and long-distance cruisers across North America.

    The Iconic Alberg 37 mkII

Designed by the renowned Carl Alberg, the Alberg 37 mkII represents a refined evolution of a classic ocean cruiser. Known for its graceful lines, moderate beam, full keel with an encapsulated lead ballast, and narrow transom, the design prioritizes safety, motion comfort, and sea keeping abilities over maximum interior volume. The mkII variation refined the deck plan and interior layout to offer an even more practical configuration for short-handed cruising and extended living aboard.

"The Everden" is a beautifully maintained 1979 model currently located in Gananoque, Ontario, within the heart of the Thousand Islands region. This vessel offers an ideal combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern updates, making it a turnkey choice for sailors looking to navigate the St. Lawrence River, Great Lakes, or offshore blue-water routes.

Inside, the Alberg 37 mkII features a warm, traditional teak interior with two hanging lockers, extensive cabinetry, and six opening ports paired with two overhead hatches for superior ventilation. The main salon provides a fold-down table, a settee to port that conveniently slides out into a double berth, and a second settee to starboard.

The forward cabin includes an extra wide V-berth with overhead hatches and dedicated storage, while the galley comes fully equipped with a propane stove with oven, integrated refrigeration, hot and cold pressure water, and an original brass manual freshwater hand pump. A Dickinson Newport propane heater keeps the interior cozy during shoulder-season voyages.
