The Gulfstar 44 Center Cockpit: Ultimate Offshore Comfort and Performance
The 1980 Gulfstar 44 Center Cockpit, Entre Nous, represents a high point in classic blue water sailboat design. Engineered for long-distance passagemaking and ultimate comfort at sea, the 44 Center Cockpit model offers a secure helm, exceptional deck space, and an expansive layout below deck. Its modified fin keel with encapsulated lead ballast provides deep stability, while the skeg-hung solid fiberglass rudder delivers crisp, tracking helm control in heavy seas.
Entre Nous has benefited from extensive professional refinements. The hull was professionally peeled, glassed with vinylester resin, and treated with West System epoxy, along with an upgraded Awlgrip paint finish. In 2002, the keel was professionally modified by Bristol Marine to a 6 ft draft with an added 1,500 lbs of encapsulated ballast, raising the waterline by 3 inches to comfortably accommodate extended gear cruising.
Stepping below into the salon, you are greeted by generous synthetic white leather settees, modified for extra deep seating, and a large folding table that seats eight. The forward-thinking layout places all water, fuel, and holding tanks low under the salon sole, keeping weight centered and keeping the bow light for heavy seas. A step-down wrap-around galley to port provides a secure, ergonomic workspace for meal preparation while underway, equipped with double-insulated Frig-O-Boat refrigeration and three burner stove.
The private master aft cabin was redesigned in 2010 to feature a queen berth, extensive double closets, and dedicated head access with a shower. Forward, guests enjoy a comfortable V-berth with ample storage, a second head, and access to the chain locker. A walk-in, sound-insulated engine room houses a powerful 75hp Yanmar turbo diesel, remote fuel polishing, and organized electrical panels, making Entre Nous a fully turn-key blue water cruiser ready for its next horizon.

· Ground Tackle: 1500W electric windlass, 60lb stainless steel CQR anchor with all-chain rode, hawse pipe, and deck washdown.
Sail Handling and Rigging
· In-Mast Furling Main: Keel-stepped mast with Hood Stowaway in-mast electric furling main, cockpit controls, and manual backup.
· Headsail Systems: Furlex headsail furling with 150% genoa, furling jib, and cruising asymmetrical spinnaker with sock and pole.
· Winches and Hardware: Barient 32 CST primary winches, Harken 40 Quattro AST mainsheet winch, Sta-Loc swageless shroud terminals, and solid vang.
Mechanical and Electrical Systems
· Yanmar Turbo Diesel: 75hp Yanmar 4JH2H-HTE (approx. 1,940 hours) paired with a Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission and 3-blade 22" MaxProp feathering propeller.
· Walk-In Engine Room: Fully insulated, organized service bay housing fuel polishing, oil change system, water filtration, and hot water heater.
· Power Systems: 420Ah 6V house battery bank, 110W solar panel with Victron MPPT controller, 75A charger, high-output alternator, and roughed-in A/C ducting.
· Navigation Suite: Raymarine E80 chartplotter/radar, Raymarine ST7000 hydraulic autopilot, ST60 TriData, ST60 Wind, and ICOM VHF.
